Ultrasound is expected to remain a leading modality far into the future. In a market where the cost of health care is rapidly rising, Ultrasound is a cost effective way to image, and is the preferred modality in many instances, especially when exposure to radiation is unwanted. In almost all cases, it provides a noninvasive approach to diagnosis. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the profession will increase by forty-four percent between 2010 and 2020, and there is no reason to think that growth will not continue well beyond that. They also predict that a major part of that growth will occur in outpatient settings such as physician’s offices and outpatient imaging centers.
